Danny Tavori
Creator-Performer & Rigging design
Cie Suspendu was founded by Danny Tavori, an Israeli-born circus artist whose work merges contemporary circus, physical theater, and spatial design. His artistic journey began in Israel-Palestine, where he engaged with circus in both commercial and underground settings, exploring its role in diverse social and cultural landscapes. Before turning to circus, he worked in social programs for children and youth at risk and holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with honors.
Tavori trained at FLIC Circus School in Torino and later studied at DOCH (University of Dance and Circus) in Stockholm. He also took part in the project development formation at Lido in Toulouse with AMOW. In Israel, he developed his work primarily within the contemporary dance scene, premiering creations at the Jerusalem Solo Dance Festival and the Suzanne Dellal Dance Center. His approach to circus is shaped by a philosophical inquiry that moves between material and spiritual research, continuously shifting between abstraction and tangibility. This interplay informs his creative process, pushing the boundaries of movement, space, and presence.
A central part of Cie Suspendu’s artistic identity is its collaboration with sound and code artist Nir Jacob Younessi. Younessi’s work blends sound, technology, and ritual to create immersive sensory experiences, using programming, sensors, and natural materials to deepen the audience’s engagement. His contributions are integral to the company’s creations, shaping both the sonic and interactive dimensions of its performances.
The founding of Cie Suspendu marked a new chapter following Tavori’s relocation to France, where he found a more established contemporary circus culture. A key turning point was working with Bernard Kudlak, former director of Cirque Plume, whose artistic legacy and team provided valuable insights into the creative process. He has also been mentored by Idit Herman, director of Clipa Theater, and Butoh dancer and choreographer Tamar Borer. Through extensive work with Borer, Tavori integrated elements of Butoh into his practice, engaging in a deep exploration of physical transformation, presence, and the body as a vessel of expression.
